Femmes talk almost thrice as much as their male counterparts according to Dr. Luan Brizendine, author of The Female Mind. This self-professed feminist states that the differences between the female and male brain explain why women do so. According to Brizendine, females devote more brain cells to chatting and the very act of conversing initiates an inundation of brain chemicals that give women a high akin to heroin. She said, "Women have an eight-lane superhighway for processing emotion, while men have a small country road." However, Brizendine said that whereas men have an international airport for sex thoughts (with their brain "sex processor" that is twice as large in men as in women), "women have an airfield nearby that lands small and private planes." In fact, she observed that a woman tends to think of sex once a day whereas a man does so every 52 seconds on average.

I remember Jeff Foxworthy joked that men talk out of necessity and women talk to relax. It seems like he was on to something there.
Brizendine also says that men's brains have developed a certain deafness to women's words albeit well-reasoned they may be. Perhaps, the male when mesmerized by his muse can only hear her mellifluous melodies.
Gary Smalley and John Trent had some videos that our grow group watched, maybe 7 or 8 years ago that said something similar to the article you alluded to:
Men use words 11,000 times a day; women use 24,000 per day. By the time the man gets home from work, he's already used his. She, on the other hand, is just getting started...
Man thinks of sex 11 out of 11 times during the day; a woman thinks of sex 1 out of 11 times during the day.
Disparity? Nah...
Two questions:
1. How does she know this?
2. How in the world could the prolific John Calvin have written all of his commentaries and the Institutes, etc. since he thought about screwing once every 50 seconds?
"Paper will put up with anything written on it, and there's a sucker born every minute."-----Uncle Joe Stalin and P.T. Barnum
Whether or not one accepts Brizendine's data, does anyone doubt that as a general rule women are much more verbally oriented and that men are much more sexually obsessed? Of course, there surely are notable exceptions but common experience seems to reflect females' zest for conversing and men's proclivity toward priapism.
Geo., I'd prefer not to comment on John Calvin but men's sublimation of their satyrist tendencies seems to have produced many great works of art.
According to Webster's, "priapic" means "phallic."
"Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency?"
Oops! Forgot to use my Bowdler check.
speaking of no decency, Greg Gutfield said this on his blog:
"What the research doesn't make clear: whether women use more words than men, or just repeat the same ones over and over and over again."
Of course, Greg likes llamas these days. Less talk, more cuddlin'.

Your kids like Jimmy Neutron as my nephew and neice do, eh? :-) If she says the right things, do we really care that she says them over and over?
